Dear All,

I appreciate your help and comments for clarifying my concepts about modeling of suspension system and hydraulic steering in Adams.
When suspension system is modeled in Adams, we use Spring and Damper providing the Spring Stiffness and Damping values, this makes senses for suspension system comprising of mechanical spring and hydraulic shock absorber and for a hydraulic suspension as well.
If I need to model Hydraulic Steering system in Adams, what will be the best methodology for simulation? The turning of the vehicle is obtained by steering cylinders which are lying almost horizontally, means neither gravity nor the portion of the weight of the vehicle is acting on. The cylinders are acting as hydraulic rams to transfer the forces to steer/turn the vehicle. I question myself why Spring/Damper approach will be used here as in Suspension case, because this steering system is not taking care of the road induced vibrations, it is just to transfer the forces by hydraulic ram actions for steering purposes.
I will be grateful for your comments/insight and referring to any link for the technical literature or article.

Model the rack, rack housing and tierods, and generate an sforce between the rack and the rack housing. In the simplest case, which is not really usable, the force should be proportional to the steering wheel torque. More complex calibrations require lookup tables for the assist force.

Which ADAMS package are you working in?

Cheers
