HYDRO TEST AFTER NOZZLE REPLACE TO NEW VESSEL

Greetings

I have one question. Please help me to solve this issue. Now we are in project - construction phase. We received small pressure vessel from long time. It is re-heat condensate drum. Now we observed it has wrong nozzles ( mean the nozzles came from non-approved supplier ). Contractor start to cut and already they purchased new nozzles from approved supplier. They want to put them and perform welding. What type of tests I should ask them after repairing or alteration? Only DPT or Hydro test also ? Please I need the answer according to international standard.

I would suggest you use a contractor that has a current Certificate from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors that authorizes this repair activity. This would be considered a repair because you are replacing nozzles in-kind.

Either the National Board Inspection Code or API 510 would be the international codes to follow, and they contain the necessary requirements. I would recommend a wet florescent MT and liquid pressure test - not a construction code hydrostatic test.

Depending on the size this "small" vessel, it might be more prudent perform the Code hydrotest. The Contractor's AI might permit MT inspection at multiple intervals in the weld out and preclude pressure testing altogether. But as the purchaser/end user of the equipment, you should heed metengr's recommendations. It could incur some added costs, however, but they should be negligible.
