our company uses barlow's theory for hydro testing p=2xsxt over d which is based on the actuall pressure for the start of deforming or destuction of the pipe (carbon pipe) so they use the theory but alter the value of the tensile strength and use the yield strength and then multiply that by .6 e.g. 18" carbon pipe sch 40 a 106 2 times the wall of .375 times the yield of 35k times.6 devided by o.d. of 18" =875 psi rounded to the nearst 100 900 psi is the testing pressure. my ? is does this formula meet specs and or is safe.
