Does anyone have any cases studies on recommended equipment for solid and hydrocarbon separators.

There seem to be plenty of solid / liquid separators but there don't seem to be many hydro carbon and solid separators.

I'm flushing sand that may contain hydrocarbons from a tank and want to be able to either have a containment vessel that is relatively compact or alternatively have one that separates hydro carbons and solids.

Any help is appreciated.

A filter/strainer or a centrifuge will separate solids form liquids and gases.

Or do you have solid hydrocarbons with the sand? Then you may need to dissolve/melt the solids

No solid hydrocarbons in the sand. I am actually concerned about about any gaseous hydrocarbons lodged in pockets inside sand that has been separated from liquid in a flare knock out drum.

Thoughts?

In my humble opinion there should be
some heating then agglomeration to make

the holding layer thinner and allow for release of pocketed materials,

then coalesce these pockets to larger size and easier releasing out and separation.

It depends on what solid concentration is. For concentration of 1% and below, filters can be used. for concentration of 1-10 % hydrocyclones can be used. Centrufuges as i know afe good for bigger particle size solids. There are some sand and oil separation hydrocyclone manufactured by krebs company, Merpro, Alderley, axia mozly(Natco). You can find some info in their web sites. I am working now with equipment supplied by Merpro and solving some problems.
