Hydrodynamics.... Help please

Hello all,

I have a question about one small thing.

In literature, it says that linear analysis of hydrodynamic becomes nonlinear if the amplitude is larger than 40%. My question is how do you measure this amplitude?

I don't know the context of your question.

If you are talking about rotating machines with journal I would assume they would be talking about peak-to-peak shaft displacement as a fraction of diametrical bearing clearance.
