Hello

I am looking at start up of a new facility where the available medium to warm a reactor and its catalyst is H2. I know that H2 is not typically used as a heat carrier but in this hydro treating service it is available without needing extra facilities. The problem is the flow is small and the reactor....big. I have had general advice that hydrogen isn't really a suitable media for this but if I look at h2 its heat capacity is high per unit mass versus other sources available. Calcs show it will work but takes a few shifts. Any general advice about what the specific concerns are with h2 are greatly appreciated! Thanks

Don't know about the catalyst, but if is based on sulfides, once through hydrogen may deactivate it by removing sulfur producing H[sub]2[/sub]S leaving behind the bare metals. The cat supplier should be consulted about this subject.
