is entrapped air in the hydrostatic test cause of pressure drop?

Basic Thermodynamics. PV=nRT.

If you have enclosed the vessel, then V, n, R are constant. Now, if you have a change in temperature, then the pressure will change almost linearly (on an absolute temperature scale).

Also high pressure air trends to dissolve into the liquid. It only takes a small amount to make a big difference in the liquid pressure
