Hi everyone
Is it necessary to take hydrotest for internal piping in vessels or drums?

Mehran,

Your question is not clear enough. Do you mean if you need to account for it in an analysis or are you asking that it must be conducted? It is mandatory to calculate the value of a hydrostatic pressure test, see UG-99 of Division 1. I know too little about your problem to decide whether or not the testing conditions must be evaluated for the structure. You might want to take a look at appendix 46 (46-3(d)) of Division 1 as well.

Dear Mehran1977,

Of course. Test requirements would be as per the piping code.

Is the piping wholly within the vessel?, i.e. can you get a differential pressure in operation?

If not then no it doesn't need it, but if the piping extends beyond the pressure vessel then yes.

Very difficult to say without a P&ID or piping drawing.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

It may look as:
- If the internal pipe is a "non-pressure" part, the test is not required.
- If it's like an exchanger with internal tubes, which are pressure parts, the test is required.
