If we fabricate pipe spools that are BEP ("S" Stamped) in our shop, do we need to Hydro-test them?

Our customer does not want to pay for the shop hydro as they will be hydro-testing the system after installation.

Is this feasible?

Thanks

Normally no. The Code hydrotest will be performed by the Assembler.

Thanks Stanweld,

But do you mean 'no' to being feasable or 'no' in reference to needing to hydro-test them in the shop.

I didn't realize my question was a bit ambiguous.

You are not required by Code to perform the hydrotest. You may be required to do so by your Customer.

Thanks again,

This is what I presumed, but I have someone within our organization that it telling me that we have to hydro, whether the customer wants it or not.

From what I read in B31.1 and Sect. I, a hydro needs to be performed, but it does not stipulate when.

A hydrotest needs to be performed per b31.3, however when it happens does not matter, piping is hydro'd in the shop to make sure that the pipe is up to code and then hydro'd in the field to check all the field welds. If they wish to take the risk of waiting and hydrotesting it all at once (absolutely not a good idea) then they can take that upon themselves.
