Can anyone please help me about using an 160 mm. NPI beam as the support of an sliding load of 1000 kg.

What should be my priority to be taken into consideration?

Thanks,
cc

Please be more specific,

The load is sliding on top and pushing the beam or hanging from the bottom. This change the behavior.

The span of the beam and how it is supported.

Are you joint to lift the weight or just sliding, because that you have to increase some the load by impact.

The dimension of the section could be nice.

The load is hanging from the bottom and sliding.

The beam is supported to the walls with welded plates with an opening of 7 meters.

The load will be installed to the beams and left hanged; then in case the load(equipment) will be sliding while working.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi,

Is the load is hanging from the bottom flange have to check:
The sliding device fit in the flange beam (check dimensions).
The wheels are going to load the flange have to check if the flange can take the load (like a cantiliver beam).
Check deflections for the beam, to void the slide device get stuck.

Then go to normal process of design, unsoppurted lenght, cirtical lenght and this checks for bending, shear.

Hi,

Almost forgot.

The AISC code ask for an aditinal load (transversal and longitudinal both) and it is about 10% of the total load.

Interaction have to be checked.
