I blame 7.5.5 (revision block)

I know this may be old school, but it has worked well for me for a decade and it's quick and easy. I have used the same revision block since V16 and as soon as we went to 7.5.5 it doesn't work. It's just some basic curves and notes that I would drop into a drawing by using File-Import Part and placing it where it belongs in the upper right of the border. Since we installed 7.5.5, the notes don't appear (which are just dashes at this point). They are nowhere to be found, at first. I did finally find them after checking to see if they came in blanked, by doing a "show all". It wasn't till AFTER I cancelled the show all that they appeared. But they appeared down in the bottom left corner of the sheet. The curves are dropping in the correct location (based on the point specified), but the notes are located from the origin(0,0,0) of the sheet. And did I mention that they are not visible until I do a "show all" and exit the command? I tried recreating a new file for both the revision block and drawing in 7.5.5 and it behaves the same. What is going on? I have tried model/view dependancies and it makes no difference. Help please! I know there are a dozen ways of putting in a revision block, but we like this way.

Sounds like a bug that should be reported to GTAC. We're using 7.5.4 and not having that issue at all. We do the exact same thing for our revision block, just above the title block.

May I suggest that you 'update' you workflow by using a Tabular Note for your 'revision block' instead of constructing it using lines and disconnected text. The Tabular Note will be treated as a single object with editable text objects in each 'cell'. And like the 'cells' of a spreadsheet you can set format rules and other options to give you more control over what you're doing and how it behave when moved.

To create one of these, while in Drafting, go to...

Insert -> Table -> Tabular Note...

...and once created you can select the note and edit the number and size of the rows and columns as well as their content. Once created, you can save a master copy as a Symbol or as something which can added to the Reuse Library which you can then drag onto you drawing whenever needed. I think you will find this to be superior to trying to 'herd' a bunch of lines and notes around on the screen ;-)

I agree with John about using a tabular note, but in answer to your problem it is a known bug and there are PRs to fix it. No word on when that will be at this time as the PRs are approx 2 weeks old.

I don't like the lag time when it swithes over to Excel and back. They guys were doing it with a tab note when I came here 4 months ago. I showed them they old way and they loved it and all switched over to the old way. Now it don't work and we don't like going back to the tabular note. We have since switched to using the custom symbol they used before the tabular note, but it is still more clicky than File-Import Part. Bummer to hear that it is a bug.

Better to learn that it is a bug than that it had been removed as obsolete!

Just because you're using a Tabular Note does NOT mean that you have to use Excel to fill in the text. That's only an option. You can just select a 'cell' of the note, press MB3 and select either 'Edit...' (a simple insert text widget will appear) or 'Edit Text...' (the full Text Editor dialog will appear). You just enter your text and you're good to go.

When you select a 'cell' and press MB3 you can also select the 'Style' option which will allow you to set the Font, text size, format rules and the various 'Fit Methods' that you would like to use if the text entry is longer than can fit in the original 'cell'. None of these require accessing Excel.
