I'm having trouble with Inventor! I can model just fine and even use advances features but I can't seem to master the 2d portion. For instance, if I have an assembly named "100a" and then create a drawing and place all my views, then create a second sheet for a detail, the second sheet inherits the same drawing name as the first sheet and I can't change it unless I change both. Is this something that requires me to simply create an additional *.idw? Secondly, how do I make my purchase items "a, b, c, etc, and make items (or details) 1, 2, 3, etc.?

I'd also like to be able to set up a drawing template that incorporates my company logo but it seems I have to do this with each new drawing and that it's not saving to my template. Where can I find an indepth tutorial on template and project directory stuctures?

Thanks for anyone who can help.

A lot of your questions could be answered in a day of over the shoulder training. Have you received any yet?

It seems that you are having trouble mostly with your template and title block creation, nothing you are describing is anything that can't be fixed with a good title block.

I have had a whitepaper on the back burner for some time and just haven't had the time to finish it but sdotson.com has some nice basic tutorials on this.

You can reach me a little more directly if you ping me at my blog.

Sounds like you're using the wrong type of property (iProperty) in your title block.

Make sure you key from a MODEL Property and not a Drawing Property.

I'm using "Properties - Model" <PART NUMBER> in the title block and it works fine.

Important footnote: I've noticed it automatically keys off of the FIRST BASE View you place on each individual sheet, which can also create problems if you change your mind and delete the first base view (later on).

I use a mixture of all types, model, drawing, prompted, etc. Some things you want the same in all drawing sheets, like company, project, etc, so I use a drawing property. Others such as assembly name gets pulled from the model. Just a matter of doing some reading and setting up your templates correctly.
