I am running I-Deas 9m2 on WinXP Home OS and the IGES import seems to get stuck at the translator parsing stage. There are no spaces in the file name I am trying to import. The IGES export has the same problem. Has anyone else had this issue come up, and if so how did you go about solving it?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how you even got the IGES GUI started since our local EDS applications guy tells us that we can't run 9m2 on XP since 9m2's Orbix won't run correctly (if at all) on the XP OS.

Perhaps this is your problem, although if it were I'd expect an error message as soon as you selected IGES from the Import or Export menu.

Another possible problem is that I-DEAS at any level isn't recommended to run on XP Home, it should be on Professional.

What ever the root of your issue is, try running the old IGES translator (which doesn't seem to need Orbix running for it to work).

ie. In the prompt window type:
/xto co bo fc ex -For Export
/xto co bo fc im -For Import

N.B this runs IGES 5.0 in lieu of 5.3

Hope it helps....

Hi RCD,

The Old IGES commands you indicated worked well. Thanks for your help.

/xto co bo fc ex -For Export
/xto co bo fc im -For Import

I am not sure why I-DEAS 9m2 runs on window's XP Home edition, it just does. I think the Orbix doesn't run on it though as you indicated.

Hello,

I realize it has been some time since anyone posted on this thread, but it is associated with the problem that I have.

I am running Ideas 9 on Windows XP professional, and having the same problem with the import and export of files.

The commands for importing and exporting of iges files in this thread worked fine.

My question...Are there simular commands for importing CATIA files?

Without the orbix capable of running on xp correctly I am unable to import or export any type of file. Other than the Iges files, Catia (.exp) files are all I am interested in importing.

Any information would be very helpfull.

Thank you.

Unfortunately not. You'll need Orbix running to get the Catia Translator working
