I-DEAS .unv file formatting

I currently use I-DEAS 9 and I have a program that wants an I-DEAS 4 .unv file. I've tried manually converting but I've missed something because I still can not get my code to accept the file. Does anyone know of exactly what's different between the two versions? Is it laid out in a manner that I can use Perl to effectively convert the files?
