but NX cannot select them (no matter the filter). If, without any any command selected, they show up as lines or splines (whatever) but will not extrude, divide, revolve, etc. If i preselect it and then select extrude (as an example) it says missing selection string. If i recreate it in this same space i still cannot select it. tried on 2 different systems and NX 8.5 and NX 10 so must be within files

any ideas??????

are they self intersecting splines? sometimes that give the missing selection error.

can you export the curves then reimport them

Can you select and Ctrl+ I ?
The info window should tell what type etc these objects are.

I would guess that the objects are corrupted - the model they came from corrupted and missing some critical data that NX expects to find.
Try Part Cleanup
try File - Export - Heal Geometry

it has not self intersect, I deleted the phantom curves and recreated it and still nothing ...cannot even divide the curve or add point set...tried part clean up nothing. I can select it and it says line or spline but I start extrude and I can select 2 first curve, and then it wont select the second, but will the 3rd and not the 4th. (and ever tried selecting that second curve first (either original or new)first and it will not let me... twightlite zone

can you export the extracted curves to a different part and extrude these ?

Did you extract the lines while in an assembly ?
There is a chance the work part was not the assembly that you were working in, and the curves are in a component file.
So when extracting the lines, verify what the work part is so you get what you want.
