I have too many fonts in ACAD 2009 1

Instead of scrolling, highlight a font name and type the letter 't' on your keyboard to shortcut to the fonts starting with the letter t. This is more of a windows trick than an autocad trick.
Another option would be to set up textstyles and dimstyles and save them in a template file so you won't have to manually set up text again.

I agree with NewtonFP, set up textstyles in your template file. Then you don't have to scroll around, but the other fonts are still there in case you need them.
If you really want to get rid of the unused fonts, they are in C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2009\Fonts. I think you'll need to close AutoCAD first, but then I suggest you MOVE the fonts you don't want to a new folder... you may need them later.

Thanks for the advice.
I tried to remove the fonts from the folder (I actually cut them out of AutoCAD completely) and it made no difference at all - all the fonts are still there! So much for file paths.
I have my drawings and fonts set up nice but I have to work on a lot of legacy drawings and part of the task is to change dozens of other text-styles to Arial. I have discovered that AutoCAD's DWF printer hates Tahoma and prints it sometimes bold, sometimes stretched. Arial is fine. What would be nice would be to automate the process - any AutoLisp offers?

First I would create an Arial style.
Then use quick select in the properties pallet, to select all the text, and change the style in the properties to that style.
Do the same for MText, and dimensions.
That way you get to keep the fonts, which is important IMO.
