I have modified an existing database for an i-part.
I edited an existing column (part numbers) and added a few more members. i did not change any of the existing filenames.
when i save the file i get no errors. (cells are all filled)
when i check in the model view things are as expected, there are 3 variations, different features, different colors and when i select a different "default row" in the database the file acts as it should. the parts look right.
when i now place the parts into an assembly the parts will not save to the factory giving the message...........
" STG_E INVALID NAME ($800300FC)" AND " THE DATABASE COULD NOT BE SAVED".
we have many legacy files that use this part so i cannot create a different file for this.

Please let me know any tips or tricks, or solutions that you have.

FYI
i solved my problem. So i will just post the results here for your reference.

I was getting a message saying that the file could not be saved. "no rows with valid keys found".
I had added a new key (material). the old files couldn't open because of the new extra key.
a better message would have been, " un-expected key found". If i de-keyed the item the file worked perfect.
So i put in the new key and modified the filenames slightly in the spreadsheet so that the legacy files would still find an instance in the factory, and the new files could work under the new filename.
