I walked by a transformer the other day and saw this transformer plate.

I realized I didn't know what [!]these[/!] vector symbols mean.

My only guess is it's showing the the phase angle relationship between the primary and secondary?

Someone please clue me in.

Yes it is the indication of Dd0.You can also connect delta such as to get Dd4 or Dd6, Dd8 and Dd10

Yes, that what those mean and in this case, shows that there is no phase shift from primary to secondary.

Also the phase angle of a wye supply feeder.

Yay! A small victory. I must take what I can get.

But, as one gives one takeths away. Now I have to look up what Ddx means. LOL

That is IEC transformer terminologies. Capital letter is the Primary, lower case is the secondary, the number is the "vector group", so Dd0 = Delta primary, delta secondary, vector group 0. The vector group is describing the relationship between primary and secondary so that if you parallel transformers, you can make sure the phase shift matches and you don't end up with circulating currents; vector group 0 means there is no phase shift.

We tend to not bother with all of that, we just build bigger transformers...

jraef,In IEC vector symbols, the capital letter is for HV voltage and not for primary.
