Hi!
This is the problem: I have this race where we'll race against other non-conventional vehicles, and we as electrical engeneering students will use an electric kart. The race is 3Km long and the principal concern is top speed. I am looking for the rigth motor an control to achieve this, given the U$1000 we'll have to spend.

I was thinking in a DC motor and a PWM control (we want to build it ourselves) but I'm still looking for the rigth motor. Anyone knows where can I find a 24 to 48V DC motor of about 5 to 10 HP (as you see we will use brute force instead of an efficient configuration)at a reasonable cost? (U$400 or so).

Any advice will be very appreciated :)

Thanks in advance, and sorry about my english

Hi Keiv,

Check with your local motor rewind shop in the area, maybe they have an old dc golf cart motor and gearbox? who knows, maybe you can get them to help sponsor your project!

Good Luck,

Suggestion: Visit
and type DC Motors under Product / Service which will return various DC motor category. Click on a category, e.g. dc motor brushless and this will bring you to many manufacturers to inquire or solicit best price for your project. Maybe, you could qualify under noble causes and get some assistance. Some larger businesses are supposed to spend about 5% of their profits on noble causes, e.g. R&D, charity, etc.
Incidentally, you will also see among categories motor controls category. This will be convenient to visit if the manufacturer does not support its motor controls.
