A handful of users will be working throughout the day for hours and then icon bitmaps will begin disappearing from toolbars. A restart of NX will fix the problem, but I'm looking for a possible reason. I have already talked with GTAC, still awaiting a response. This is happening on Windows 7 machines. I don't think it is a graphics driver issue as many other machines with the same setup are unaffected and the people who experience the problem have different drivers in some instances (Certified on Siemens website). Has anybody experienced something similar to the attached image?

Sounds like a memory issue. Are your workstations using dedicated graphics cards or are they integrated onto the systems motherboard? More importantly, is the graphics sharing system memory or does it have it's own dedicated memory? If the graphics is on its own card then it probably has it's own memory, but if it's part of the motherboard it might be sharing the system memory, which is NOT a recommended configuration.

Graphics cards have dedicated memory. Our standard graphics card is NVIDIA Quadro 5000 with ~ 2GB RAM and in some cases 4GB. I have been searching for a decent tool to monitor GPU usage for other troubleshooting which would help out in this case, but have had very limited success.

Years ago, when we were dealing with systems with much less memory than what is common today, when we first started to introduce GUI type interfaces, often when graphics memory got low the bitmap intensive icons were the first to be 'sacrificed' in order to have enough memory to keep the model displayed in the graphics window.

Have you tried turning-off some of the toolbars to see if eventually you reach a point where the remaining ones reappear?

I'm bringing this one back because it is tsill very much a problem. Icons do not come back after removing toolbars and the GPU load is insignificant when toolbar icon bitmaps disappear.

Has anybody experienced this?
