ID balloon text changes

Using NX 7.5 and have had a couple of drawings exhibit the following:

Identification Symbols attached to a component and either left the text field blank or manually filled it with the proper callout number change upon updating the Parts List in the BOM. The ID symbol now displays a "square followed by letter C".

If a new ID balloon is created on a second sheet and the Parts List updated the same thing occurs.

This issue affects all ID symbols in the particular drawing file.

It is somewhat reminiscent of years ago in UG when a text setting could be changed to display a square rather than text and since it affects all ID's in a file thought it might be a setting, but I cannot find it.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

A square in text rather means that there is a character missing in the specific font used.
For example if you would use the NX "Blockfont" and in the Note editor would type the character Ä or similar which isn't included in ASCII, it will show up as a square. ( Copy the character Ä from this post into the NX editor and see.)

Select the ID symbol and select Information - Object, the listing will report "text string" and the text which should be visible in the ID symbol.

Prior to NX 8.5 ( 8.0 ?) NX uses a propriety font definition on it's drawings. When originally developed the NX font only supported ASCII where A stands for American and thereby excludes other local characters. Later the font definition in NX was expanded to manage "any character" but few of the supplied fonts where enhanced to contain more than the American character sets. The font Latin-extended supports the European characters. ( try that font on your ID symbol)
NX 8.5 (8.0?) uses "windows fonts" where this issue doesn't exist.
