ASME Y14.24-1999 (Chapter 10) Identifies id cross reference drawings as a way to assign unique ID (your own company part number) to a vendor item which has a incompatible ID.
2 questions regarding usage:
1) Can this be applied to prevent duplicate ID's from different mfg's or vendors? Typically, CAD, PDM and PLM programs allow a single part number to be used only once (unique).
2) Is a drawing really required since CAD, PDM and PLM systems utilize item master data files and attributes (parameters) which will allow this data be captured?
I would like to hear how others are performin this.
Thanks!!
