At a waterplant we are currently running we batch 2 gallons of 12% sodium hypochlorite to 42 gallons of water in an opaque barrel. As the batch decreased the strength increases significantly and when knew batches are made the process reverses and the solution strength is weaker. This makes controlling the free chlorine residual somewhat tedious. Does anyone have suggestions or ideas why the solution isn't staying uniform. (the plant runs up to about 6-8 hrs total off and on in a 24 hour period

thanks

How long does a batch last? The solution strength should lessen over times.

A batch lasts roughly 2-3 weeks. And yes I agree the strength should weaken over time, that is why i am seeking maybe some outside the box thinking. The 42 gallon tall solution is always weaker then when the solution is at 20, 15, 10 gallons.....seems to defy basic chemistry
