I would like to know how the original part number or make from part number is identified on a parts list or BOM. My company is inputting our Part list/BOM information into our MRP system by uploading from our drawings. Previously we would identify our parts by flag note "Make from PN 123456" and would input the new altered item number in the Part list/BOM.

Having the original part number in the general notes and flagged is a problem because our planning department does not have that information on the part list/BOM that is uploaded.

What are some solutions or practices used in various industry?

How do you handle any other raw stock purchase?

Bartonrj25,

Generate a fabrication drawing. Call up the unmodified part on a BOM on the drawing. Your drawing generates a part number that you call up on your BOM.

Normally, the raw stock is identified on the BOM by material spec within the BOM.

Hi, Bartonrj25,

Do what you say and say what you do. Create true BOMs, and your ERP will be "happy" to accept them. Whenever you make a part from another part, you have a BOM with one line of items.

Best regards,

Alex

So, you have identified raw stock in the form of a part that will be modified.

Technically, it's an Altered Item drawing so that people know that they won't be calling their metal or plastics supplier.
