IEC 60529 IP Rating

I am faced with a problem of specifying the required IP rating for a Project. IEC60529 provides available IP ratings. But how do we choose the right one for the project? Is there a recommended practice or International Code or Standard that will guide me in selecting the right IP Rating for the project?
