Hi, I'm relatively new to ANSYS so sorry if this is just an ignorant mistake.

I'm trying to import a simple model from solidworks, basically just an extruded plate. My process is as follows:

1. Save solidworks file as IGES
2. Import to Workbench
3. Change properties on Geometry to 2D analysis type
4. Open in designmodeler, generate model and create midsurface from the part
5. Try to open Mechanical

Then I get an error saying "Plugin Error: No valid bodies found for 2D analysis in the following parts: Surface Body" . I want to do a a shell model analysis, but should I still have the 3D analysis type selected?

Thanks for any advice.

Don't use IGES unless you absolutely have to. STEP is way better. Also, I think Solidworks is Parasolids. So is Design Modeler, and I think it will open a Parasolids file without any interface licenses. Look under File, Import External Geometry File.
