I'm not a user of CATIA, but I'm requiring another company to supply me with an IGES output of a model that they developed for the purpose of CFD analysis. Is is possible for CATIA (all versions) to format the conditions of an IGES output so that the output is of NURBS curves (entity 126) and NURBS surfaces (entity 128)? My experience is with ProE and it is possible to configure the IGES output to perform the previous format configurations. If it is possible could someone direct me to some documentation, so that I can help out the other company with the CAD setup. Thanks.

I would use step AP 214 iso if possible, if iges is a must, tell them, curve and surface type = BSPLINE and representation mode = SURFACE

gutboy,

IGES outputs from CATIA V5 are usually very clean. The only options you have for export are surface only, surface with wireframe, or shell model. The data can be standard surfaces and curves or B-splines.

Most CFD packages now have a native CATIA V5 translator, so that you can import the CATIA V5 files directly, but it usually is priced as an add-on. But it's the best and cleanest way to do it.

Also, make sure the units of measure are compatible.

Actually I noticed some important options that can affect the outcome of some files. So maybe have your supplier provide you with different versions and name them accordingly so you get the desired results. see attached image.
