I am working on modeling some parts for a friend. I am somewhat experienced with Mechanical Desktop and Solid Edge but all I have available at the time for 3d modeling is AutoCAD 2006/7. I am having some scans made of the existing parts I need to build off of and modify. Everyone I talk to that does scanning says they will give me an IGES file. Although I consider myself proficient in AutoCAD, I can't say that I've ever been able to import an IGES file into a dwg. Even if I can what do I do with it then? Is it a point cloud or something? My question is, are there any programs out there that does this conversion? Like I said, I ahve a few small parts to model for a friend so I'm not realy looking to purchase program packages etc. Any advice?

Try the Autodesk forum for better luck.

I work for a machine shop that fabricates parts for Yamaha, Honda, and all. I do the CAD stuff. We have had the same problem, if you are running 2006-2007 You should have access to Edrawing, try that, there is also another programcalled Epart, it might be worth a shot. If neither work try downloading a IGES converter.

Just try to help, if you sombody that has ProE, they can bring in a 3d iges and give you a 2d dwg through drawing. Not sure how to bring in a 3d iges and then give you a 3d dwg.

Good luck.
