Our brand new vessel just left the yard.

According to ILO the bathrooms should have "Towel dryers".
Our Client interprets this as the electrically heated version, while I interpret is as a Towel Rail where towels will dry without heat.

I have never seen an electrical towel dryer on a ship or rig so surely they are pulling our leg.

Can anyone clarify this, as I do not have the ILO manual and certainly do not want to install hundreds of electrical dryers if I don't need to?

I would appreciate it if you could reference to an official document from ILO that I can use or copy it in your reply.

it sounds absurd! i'd been with 1981 and 2005 built vessel but i haven't seen on-board a bathroom with towel dryers, dont't ever heard class society requires it. For 2010 built these might be a new requirements? confusing! though i don't read ILO manual. Certainly, class society will give detailed explanation try ask representative when on-board.

Did you check ILOLEX database for the requirement? If there is a requirement, you can be sure it does not mean a towel rack. Pain in the ass if it is there.

Add a hundered bucks per stateroom and a few hundered watts. Not that there is room for onein most heads anyway.

Unfortunately it is correct.

Electric towel rail yes. Otherwise build a case for exception which is what we did
