Hey guys,

I am pretty new with ilogic rules and have some troubles creating one. I am working on a parametric boat, where i would like automate some things with rules. To explane my problem i made a small illustration.

First i imported cordinates of points from an excel sheet. These points are defined as follow:
original

Between those points i made a spline to create the outside of the hull.

Now for the next part i need to make a perpendicular line with the defined points and i would like to do this by a rule. (the ship hull has like 200 of those points so clicking them each time is a lot of work to do for each section)

is creating a perpendicular line like in the example shown above possible with the use of a ilogic rule? If someone has another solution, i'd be pleased to hear.

I haven't used iLogic to make sketches, but I have another idea that would save you most of your clicking. If all the sections are the same except for the coordinates of the points, complete one section with perpendicular constraints, etc. and make it driven from an Excel sheet linked in the parameters. Then use copy design to duplicate the whole thing, and copy/paste the next set of values into the new Excel sheet. This way, for each section you only have a copy design and a copy/paste for each section.

A perpendicular line will have a negative reciprocal slope to that of the slope of the tangent line. In autocad and there is no reason that it would not work in Inventor, move the UCS to the point on the spline where you want the perpendicular line; the computer will automatically align one of the axis of the UCS tangent at that point, then invoke ORTHO and you'll have your perpendicular line.
