I'm trying to do drop weight impact

I'm trying to do drop weight impact analysis of a honeycomb structure in Abaqus.

The impact dart is a rigid body and the honeycomb structure is deformable.

At the end this message comes up: 63 elements have missing property definitions. The elements have been identified in element set ErrElemMissingSection.

Any ideas where the problem is?

This error means that some deformable elements don’t have any section (and thus also material) assigned to them. Go to Property module and make sure that sections are properly assigned. Another possible reason is that you have to change element type for some of the parts.

Thanks for your reply!

I've assigned my deformable body (honeycomb) as a Continuum shell, Homogeneous and also assigned Nylon material to it.

As for the rigid body I have only assigned inertia mass to it since it is a rigid body.

I still come up with this error message at the end..

A bit confused

Go to Mesh module and make sure that element types are properly defined (rigid part must have rigid elements assigned).

Would this be the correct way to assign the mesh element for the rigid body?

Yes, that’s how it should be done. Make sure that other parts have proper elements assigned too.

This is what ive done but the same message comes up for some reason..

I think the problem is with the impact dart, because when I change the seed of the mesh the more elements come up as having missing property definitions..

Could something like this be the solution?

Wrong assignment of rigid body reference point can be the reason of this error. Add this point in Part module.

Hi again, so I fixed the elements missing properties problem, but no I come up with this message

Any ideas ??

Excessive distortion error may be caused by too coarse or bad quality mesh but also errors in model definition. What are the initial and boundary conditions ? Do you use general contact ?

Thanks for your Reply!

I managed to solve this problem! I have no errors now..

The only thing is I am trying to get energy absorption of the structure

But I get this message: ''Output request ener is not available for element type r3d3''

What should I do?
