Impact analysis in ansys workbench

Good evening to everyone, I want to do impact analysis in ansys workbench, I got input as energy (5KJ) that will be impact in my object. I can’t able to apply as energy, any Idea like how to feed the inputs. I don’t have mass information I have only energy value, please let me know anybody know how to apply?

Describe problem more specific. Do you hit structure with bullet or drop structure onto ground?

Hi thanks for your reply. Solid object hitting the structure. So for I didn’t get actual mass of the object, customer gave only joule. He’s there any way i can to impact with joule value

I know the energy value = 5 kJ. Using potential energy equation (PE=mgh). I know the object is hitting 500 mm radius (5000=m*9.81*.5) that gives mass value = 1019 kg. Can we use this mass value in kinematic equation to find velocity (KE= 0.5mv2).I assume (KE=PE),therefore my velocity v=3.13 m/sec.
please let me know whether this approach is ok or not.

How do you use potential energy equation - what is h in your case? You have to make assumption about mass and then calculate velocity from kinetic energy. There are big difference between coin with 5kJ kinetic energy and pilow with same energy (also coin and pilow with same KE will hav different momentum).

But now you are facing new problem - impactor maus have some radius.

You calculate right velocity and mass, but I mean radius on attached picture.
