Impact of valve characteristics on the surge

dear All,

among the three characteristics which reflect the relation of the valve % travel to the flow rate, which valve characteristic would be more determintal to surge occurrence in case of:

- sudden closure and flow cessation
-sudden opening

do you agree that for the closure, it would be the quick opening since the last % opening would yield larger stoppage of flow. while for the sudden opening it would be the equal percentage??

I think, regardless of valve characteristic, you should try to set the actuation time such that it doesn't cause hammering.

Yes that looks good to me.

This deceptions though tend to describe control valve opening. Types of valve have their own characteristics which tend to be fixed.

Flow velocity and valve closure speed have more to do with it though.
