I am looking to do an impact calc on a retaining cage and need help:

Problem: projectile hits cage at a known velocity. I know the velocity and mass at point of impact and need to know the resulting force on the structure.

Does anybody have any ideas?

I suspect folks e.g. who design/deal with various armoring systems and blasting mats know a good bit about slowing down projectiles (interesting inquiry of course on this Offshore pipe forum - you might want to forum/web search in those areas)!

Well actually we have to provide support structures all the time for our piping to provide for dropped object protection. The analysis is typically done with an ANSYS Dynamics package but I'm wanting to do this with simple conservative hand calcs. Thanks for the advice though, I'll check those forums.
