I am qualifying a test coupon Sa333 Gr 6 to Sa 350 LF2. I have to carry out impact test at -50°F. The location of the specimen for impacts will be as follows

Set "A"
weld center Line
Haz on the pipe side
Haz on the flange side
PM on the Pipe side
PM on the Flange side

Set "B"
weld center Line
Haz on the pipe side
Haz on the flange side
PM on the Pipe side
PM on the Flange side

Set "C"
weld center Line
Haz on the pipe side
Haz on the flange side
PM on the Pipe side
PM on the Flange side

Can someone tell me whether I am doing the right thing

Regards

Merzi

You may be ok, but suggest you review UG 84 for other specifics.

What code or standard are you working under - B31.3 or Section VIII?

Size of the coupon is 4" Sch 40. Code will be 31.3 and Sec VIII.

To answer your question, I would recommend that you review ASME B31.3 Table 323.3.1 and as weldtek mentions, UG-84 to assure all requirements for impact testing are met.

I am a bit curious,
Why is it required to test PM in the PQRT piece?
By the virtue of meeting the specification both A 333 and A350 LF2 are supposed to hae passed impact test at -46 Deg C.

bmoorthy,

I agree that, at least per ASME Sec VIII, UG 84, & UCS 67, no impacts are required in the base metal, regardless of it's classification.
