Impacts of an earthquake on hangers

I currently study seismic effects apply to a piping structure with spring hangers. I would like to know, what are impacts of an earthquake on these spring hangers. Here are my questions:

1) What are, in “hanger report W/ Text”, “vertical movement” and “horizontal movement”?

2) Do these values vary according to loads applied to the structure studied like uniform load?

3) In “hanger report W/Text”, “maximum table displacement range” concerns the maximum displacement vertical? Horizontal? Or both?

4) What are, in “hanger report W/ Text”, “minimum allowed single spring load” and the “maximum allowed single spring load”?

5) How can I know if hangers will stand up to the seismic load? Is it just to compare the displacement at the node connecting piping and hanger with “max table displacement range”?

Regards

Recommended for you

1) The movement of the hanger node point for that specific load case.
2) Yes.
3) Vertical, and this is the maximum value from the table as a while, not for that one spring.
4) The load limits for that spring - from the hanger table.
5) Yes.

Thanks Richay for the reply!

I would like just a detail about question 5):

For the node where there is the hanger, the comparison is well possible between "Displacements" in "standard reports" and "max table displacement range" in "hanger report W/ Text"?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. You need to compare the maximum displacement to the tables value of maximum travel for that specific hanger.

The maximum table displacement is the largest travel value from the entire table.

What do you mean by "maximum travel for that specific hanger"? For exemple, if my hanger is at the node number 410, is it the "vertical movement" at the node 410 in the 'hanger report W/Text'? Or is it the displacement at the node 410 found in 'displacement' report?

In fact, I don't understand well the difference between the two... Normally, she should be the same value, no?

A specific hanger as a travel range as defined in the table. The computed displacement must be within this range.
