Importing 3D DXF Files into SE V18 1

Hello All
Please any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I have tried without success to import 3D dxf files into Solid Edge. I am able to import the same files into SolidWorks 2006. I tried using the import options but SolidEdge does not appear to have an option to create a "3D part" like Solidworks does.

Am I doing something wrong? How can I get SE to import these DXF files as 3D objects. Can SE do this? I sent DXF files to SE tech support and they were not able to import 3D dxf files. Has anybody had this problem. Importing file formats seems to be the one area where Solidworks appears to have an "edge" over SE (pun intended).

Hi,

this should usually create no problems. In case the file is
created in 2007 format SE is currently unable to convert just
because the file is (again) encrypted by Adesk.
To check the version open the .dxf file with Notepad and
locate the line:
$ACADVER
1
AC1015 <-- this is the Version string
this is created by 2000/2000i/2002
anything <= AC1018 can be imported
AC1021 = 2007 format


To get the 3D-Part is a two stage process
- start SE --> File Open --> Filetype --> .dxf
- select the file
--> Options: make sure "Write Solid Bodies to Sat file"
is checked (1. step)
check other options on the next steps
Finish
Open
The 2D-Part, if any, should now be displayed. Close the file
(Save is optional)
Now in that folder where the .dxf is stored you should see
a new file with the ending .sat, that's the 3D-Part. Open it
the normal way: File -- Open -- type = .sat ... a.s.o

In case the 3D-Part is created by an ACIS version > 7 you should
have received an error message because it's not supported.
