Importing a Base View - Orient View Tool

Greetings:

When I go to import a view, then click the orient view tool, sometimes the image in the small window is solid, sometimes it is wire frame. When it shows a wire frame, I'm not sure why. I keep the model solid prior to doing this, so I'm not sure why it changes to this, and it also does not allow me to right click in that window to make it render solid. How do I ensure it remains solid within my control?

Should be connected to the View Preferences Preview style. This setting is stored on Partlevel.
Therefor it might happen that this setting is different between two different drawings.
On the same drawing you should not see a change in behavior between views.

If the preview, before you click the Orient button, is wireframe, then the mini orient window will be wireframe. if the preview before you click the ....

?
