Okay... what version of NX are you using? Also, what is the OS of the computer that you are using NX on?

Hi MSawtell,

I am using UG NX6 and my Operating System is Windows XP professional. 64 bit machine.

I do not have GE inspira font in UGFONT folder.
Do i need to download GE inspira.fnx and place it in UGFONT folder?

If there were a 'GE Inspira.fnx' font to download, which I suspect that there is not.

However, if you could provide me a copy of the TrueType file, I could convert it to an .fnx formatted font file for you.

Hi John,

I will explain my application once again. so that you will get a clear picture.

For one of my project activities, i have to translate english language to foreign language (Polish, spanish, french) with the help of translators or the client supplied source copy which changes now and then.

I have to copy and paste it in UG ANNOTATION as note..But the foreign language is not supported.

How to solve this?

I understand, what you need is an NX font with the necessary diacritical marks so that Polish (or any other European language which uses them) can be properly written in NX text characters. The default character font used by NX is called 'blockfont.fnx' and it does not contain the diacritical marks, so you're looking for one that does and presently your Excel program is using 'GE Inspria' which must be some sort of custom or proprietary font since when I looked at my version of Excel, which was installed with all of the generally available Window fonts, it does not have a font named 'GE Inspria' available. However, when you create your NX Annotation, you could try using 'latin_extended.fnx' as that might have the necessary coverage.

John, what is this tool that you have to create a fnx font from a ttf font? Is it available for all?

Yes, there is a tool called 'FontFactory' that was developed by one of our people and which we provide free of charge (it's attached below). After unzipping the file, read the included PDF file for instructions on how to use it.

Please note that support for this 'product' is commensurate with the price that was charged, although it has evolved over time and we are currently at V3.0, but I don't expect any further updates.

Hi John,

If the Font factory is provided free of charge, i would like to know the reason for its non inclusion in the License bundle..I working in a leading service provider.

The Fonts created in my system is not available in others machine (who doesn't have font factory).

This tool is required in every machine we use..i would like to know the procedure to approach siemens to get it installed in our offices across the regions..

Can you let me know the contact point in siemens..

'FontFactory' was developed by an employee of Siemens PLM but not as part of his job. He wrote it as part of an effort on his part to learn how to program using Microsoft Foundation Classes. This person is a former Unigraphics developer from the days of FORTRAN and C, but had long since moved on to a position where he was no longer working on development projects. However, he missed the 'action' and wanted to bring his skills up-to-date as it were and decided to do something that might be of interest to some people. However, despite this not being an officially supported development effort he didn't want it to be a total waste of time so he asked me to act as his 'distributor' and provide the files to anyone who might benefit from them as long as I promised not to reveal who wrote the program since he didn't have the time to deal with customers or others who might want FontFactory enhanced or expanded beyond what he had already done (it had already grown way past what he was thinking of doing when he originally started his little 'weekend project' as it were). Also he didn't want to have to bring it up to full compliance with the Siemens PLM Software development standards so that it could be released with the product as a fully supported utility. Besides, if all goes well, it will be obsolete and of little or no value in a year or so.

Anyway, that's the story of how and why FontFactory is being made available in the manner that it has been and will continue to be until, as I stated above, it's reduced to a simple curiosity by the progress and evolution of the NX product itself. With that in mind, we're all lucky that we got what we did ;-)
