Importing Master Model Drawings and Parts into Teamcenter 3

We're just starting to incorporate Teamcenter 2007 with NX 7.5. Teamcenter seems to work great for the new projects that we're working on but we have one project that is unique for two reasons. First of all, it was our first project on NX which has been an adventure in and of itself. Secondly, we started this project prior to our Teamcenter implementation so our current file management protocol is based on our file and folder structure. This is the only project that will be done this way. All other projects are already using Teamcenter.

At this point, we have completed parts and drawings (using the master model concept) that have been released for production. We need to make changes to some of these parts and change revision which is going to be a headache if we try to do it within a file structure as opposed to using Teamcenter to update and track revisions.

We've been able to import the model files without any problem. However, when we import the drawings, they show up in Teamcenter under a separate folder as opposed to underneath the model folder. Any suggestions on the best way to import parts and drawings and have them linked under the same folder?

When you import your Drawing change the part file type to specification (instead of master) (you can change this in the output number dialog that appears after you execute)... it will then prompt you for the file to reference...select the master model that is should reference

Hope this helps

So I'm going to want to import the model file first and then the drawing right?

I think so, using that method you would have to have the model in TC... so that it would know which file to reference?

I ran across this a few years back and had a hell of time with it. I want to say that what ended up working was having everything in one folder and messing with non-master dataset tab but I can't be sure exactly what I did to get it to work.
I will check my notes tommorow and try a few things out.

A workaround that I find works for individual files (would not recomend for whole projects with a ton of models/drwgs) is to manaully add the nx specification as a dataset to the paticular revison in TC and then add the drawing .prt as a named ref. When you open it up in NX you may have to replace the master model with the correct one from TC, but once you save it everything works good from there on out.

Yeah, it's definitely not playing nice! Haha! I have a couple of the models imported successfully but when I go to attach the drawing, it comes up with an error stating:

"No Master part in clone operation or database corresponding to nonmaster - 14628147-divider-chrome-right-horizontal_dwg -> 14628146_dwg/a (specification: 14628146_dwg)"

I don't think I'm pointing the drawing to the model correctly. Teamcenter doesn't seem to give very clear directions as to how and when I'm supposed to make that connection. Do you remember how you did it?

Here's a cheat sheet I made a few years ago when I was going through the same process. It is based on our filing system; part names were 5 digits, the corresponding drawing had "_dwg" appended to the part name. It appears you are using a similar system, I hope it is useful to you.

Yeagsman85,
Didn't mean to leave you hanging, I looked around and couldn't find any notes but looks like Cowski saved the day :)

To point to the model = select the model in the reference part area

If you take a look @ the NX help --> Teamcenter Integration for NX there is a section on Utilities --> importing non-master data
