Greetings,
I am looking for some advice on the best process to import data that is in an "iges" format. Many of our customers are using other programs (Pro-E, Catia, etc.) and send CAD data to us for reference. The data is supplied in an iges format, but when imported, we only get surfaces and not all the parts that were apart of the assembly. Help? What can be done to improve this, and make the files more usable?

IGES is not really the best way to convert solid bodies.
Try using the STEP format or if possible Parasolid.
For Pro-E, they may even be able to send the original Pro-E files as SE can import some versions, although I'm not sure which ones or if it will do assemblies.
Alternatively there are specific converters available to do the conversions from one system to another, and you can do some on-line. (
bc.
