Is there a way to get 1500psi of hyraulic fluid at a flowrate of 2400 gpm into a cylinder without having 2000 hp pump. Someone suggested having an air over fluid reserve and pumping the air to force out the fluid. Also if anyone knows of pump manufacturer who can pump 2400 gpm of hydraulic fluid at 1500psi let me know. Thanks.

This flow and pressure work out to 2100 hp.
End of discussion.

Sure,
Use a 2000 HP motor and not a 2000 hp pump.

HP=gpm x delta psi x .00058 = 2088 hp.

Note: this is not taking into consideration the motor/pump efficiency, it is the hydraulic hp.

......and as for air over fluid, it all depends on how many gallons you want to push into your cylinder in one go, and how quickly you want to do that again (duty cycle), but I'm guessing that you might be (more than) slightly shocked by the size of compression package required and also your reservoir.

IMO, amongst others, make three screw pumps which will meet your duty.For intermittent duty, air over oil is normally the way to go.
Many hydro turbines use air over oil to drive the servomotors (big rams) that close the wicket gates. This decouples the instantaneous servomotor power requirement from the pump rating. The main reason in this application is to ensure the wicket gates can still be closed if the pump or its power supply fail. However the principle is still the same.
If your duty is continuous then obviously the pump hydraulic power must exceed the cylinder demand.

I posted a question in engine and fuel engineering:
thread71-84432 there off the self hydraulic pumps capable of producing a load of 1000-2000hp and spin at 8000-10000 rpm or would they have to be geared slower?
Thanks,

Tim
