Using split line I can do this (split surface for cosmos analysis purposes) but I can only do it with one contour. In this case I am playing heat sources on a board, and have multiple sources and do not want to create multiple sketches if possible. Any ideas?

Extrude your multiple contours into surface bodies and use them to split your face(s).

Thanks for the tip. I ended up offsetting the surface zero, then using my sketch to trim. Couldnt figure out how to use bodies to split the surface as you stated.

I guess Ill see if the above REALLY worked when I start applying loads!

Here's how to generate a multiple-contour split line:

1) Extrude your multiple-contour sketch as a surface body
2) Insert, Curve, Split Line
3) Select "Intersection" as the type of split
4) Select the relevant surface bodies you wish to use to split the faces of interest. It helps to use the flyout feature tree for this - you could also set a selection filter
5) Select the face(s) you wish to split
6) Hide the extruded surface bodies to see the split face(s). You can also delete the surface bodies if you will no longer need them.

worked fantastic. Not sure what I was doing wrong the first time, I think it was a selection issue.

thanks.

Yeah, if you're trying to select a surface body by picking it in the graphics area you need to set a selection filter. Otherwise you'll end up selecting only 1 face of the body and your split line gets all hosed up.

another tip.. found out you can you use the "wrap" tool to do it also!
