Improved OpenGL performance 2

Hello all, I just found this Forum and this tip from another Forum and thought I would spread the word.

If you are having troubles with rendering large assemblies, and you are on Win NT/2000 and have an OpenGL graphics card, try this:

With no drawings, parts or assemblies open, go to Tool/Options/Performance and uncheck the "Use Software OpenGL" option.

With this turned off, I have noticed a considerable improvement in performance. Please let me know if you have had the same results as I have. I plan on being active on these Forums.

Hello all,

I replied to the last forum that you mentioned (comp.cad.solidworks). I found this option to be fabulous. I love the performance increase that I have received from unchecking this option. I have large assemblies, deeply in-contexted and anything that makes this kind of performance increase gives me a big smile. B-)

That option is meant to get rid of the video card hardware acceleration. It uses software/and system's main CPU to do the job instead, hence major performance difference. If a crash occurs, try everything again with it &quot;enabled&quot;. It eliminates SW bug issue and points the finger at the card.

Thanks MadMan...

We currently have only 1 machine running Win2K (it seems my 98SE machine is automatically enabled, but I don't think I have an OpenGL card). Anyway, that Win2K machine is much better now.
