I'm looking to do some strong deformation models of large scale rock deformation (tectonic plate boundaries). ABAQUS Standard doesn't get very far, before the deformations just get to large, so I'm using explicit. However, explicit doesn't support the elastic foundation boundary.
I can set a simple 'no vertical movement' boundary at the bottom of my model, but then there's absolutely not movement. I can also set a constant lithostatic pressure tocounter gravity, but as the material is compressed, the density increases, and my model sinks away. If I set a variable lithostatic pressure, calculated from the overlying material at each point, I'm back to a ridgid boundary.
Any ideas how I could improvise something like an elastic foundation in explicit?
