Hello all,

I've been contemplating and losing sleep over this for about a year now. I am a biology graduate (chemistry minor) who has been working in the oil field (service company) for 2 1/2 years now. I had intended on moving on with my biology degree into the medical field (Masters P.A.). As life would have it, everything delayed and i needed to work and i had initially picked up this job as a "in the meantime job" to get by. It doesnt pay bad or great, it just pays. However, now I'm stuck debating whether I should go back to school, which would require studying hard to get into gradaute school. I'm 26 years old and i busted my ass to put myself through college (took 6 part time years). I always dreamed of being a physician of some sort but I almost feel like my experience in the oil field (i have worked in a drilling fluids lab and also in an analytical lab)....i almost feel like my experience now outweighs my degree. I dont know what to build on. If i build on my experience I dont think the oil field cares for a biology grad that much and i would have to go back to school for a BS in PetEng. If I can get into PA school however, it is a 2 year program (however it would cost much more). Both would end up with similar starting salary ranges (according to what i read). Right now I'm studying for my GRE's but i got an unusual opp. to go to "Mud School" training. I dont know how far i can get in the field however wihout a professional degree. I dont know in which direction to take a dive but i know i need to take a dive soon. I would hate to be stuck working in a service company for the rest of my life (like some people here) and having had a biology degree and not done anythingi with it. sorry for my ranting. thanks to anyone who spends the time to help me out.

see if you can find a company that is willing to intern you thru your degree in engineering to get to where you want to be, i know in the oilfield many company's struggle to find engineers and have programs to work you thru and sign on for a set period after you graduate

DO NOT CONTINUE DOING WHAT YOU DON'T WANT TO DO.
If you are stuck in something, do whatever you can to keep attached to your passion. Part time, after work, whatever. Don't quit you dream. You will never forgive yourself.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it's not safe ... make it that way.
