in windchill, we currently use number revision for proto type release, then promote to letter revisions for production. Our problem is that after promoting to a letter revision that the old number sequence can still be revisied and incremented.

example: part.prt rev 1.0 promoted to part.prt rev A. Part.prt rev 1 is not locked down and can be revised to part.prt rev 2. Our desire is to have the promotion from rev 1 to rev A loc the part down so that rev 1 can no longer be incremented.

Any help would be appreciated.

That is possible and how my system works. If you have a PTC account, you can search the knowledge base for the information to set your system that way.
It sounds like something is not set properly since once you have revised an item to a new version, you should not be allowed to revise an older version.
Are you setting your released files to a 'Released' state with a promotion request workflow? That may be part of the reason the numeric revision is not locked.
