Incandescent Smuts

I am looking into the problem of positioning dual fuel boilerplant in the vicinity of hazardous areas eg. gas boosters, especially in respect of the risks posed by incandescent smuts from the chimney. Whe the boilerplant is switched over from Biogas to fuel oil (diesel), incandescent smuts can be released from the chimney. Does ayone know of any research into the dispersion of temperature and range of particles, their size and how to determine the a safe zone around such plant? Did a search on Google and got something quite different!

Any thoughts would be appreciated
