I have a masonry elevator shaft, where the elevator manufacturer has requested that the rough opening be the full length of one shaft wall (~12ft). This is much wider than the finished door widths. How is the infill supposed to work? Dowel into the masonry above and below and fit the blocks in as best they can? They'd have to open a face shell to grout. Typically they want to run electrical adjacent to the doors which is an issue with the reinforced cells.

I've seen people tooth it together. I've seen the cmu infill go in without reinforcing. But none of these seems right and no masonry book or TEK manual covers this topic - that I could find.
