Hello all,
I'm working on observing wave propagation in an aluminum beam, specifically their interaction with cracks. However, my data is being "corrupted" somewhat by the reflections from the fixed boundary conditions at the end of the beam. If possible, I would like to have no reflections from the ends of the beam. From what I gathered in the ABAQUS users manual, the way to do this is to use infinite elements (CIN3D8 is what I've been trying to use). However, I am in ABAQUS/CAE, which does not have infinite elements, so I've been modifying the .inp file to change the element type to CIN3D8. However, this has been producing errors related to my time step increment.
Is there an easier way to produce a "quiet" boundary that does not produce reflections? If I make the beam longer, it takes much much longer to run the simulation, so a short section near the crack with quiet boundaries would really be optimal.
